MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Harriet G. Eddy Middle School Library is to be a welcoming and inclusive space where students can connect, learn, and grow. Its collection of materials has been selected to support the curricular needs of Eddy Middle School’s International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme as well as students’ recreational reading. The library program offers print, digital, and multimedia resources, as well as instruction in the use of these materials. This instruction includes finding, accessing, evaluating, analyzing, and synthesizing information. Overall, the library program at Eddy Middle School seeks to cultivate lifelong readers and learners who are skilled at navigating a continually evolving, information-rich world.
FAST FACTS
The HEMS Library serves 1,000+ 7th and 8th grade students at Harriet Eddy Middle School. On a typical day, about 150 students visit the library, utilizing its services before school, during break and lunches, after school, and during scheduled class visits. Students visit the library to work on assignments, read, look for books, relax in a quiet space, and spend time with friends.

COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT
Books are selected for the HEMS Library according to the EGUSD Library Materials Selection Protocol. Community members with concerns about library materials should follow the board-adopted complaint protocol.
