RECOGNITIONS

East Grand Rapids High School received the 2019 College Success Award, a one-of-kind honor recognizing schools that excel in ensuring students are prepared for college, enroll in college and succeed once they get there. Great Schools recognized 1,713 public schools across 25 states that have a successful track record of graduating students who are equipped with tools they need to succeed in college and beyond, and are a model for other schools.

The U.S. News rankings include data on more than 21,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. Schools were awarded gold, silver or bronze medals based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college. In 2019 U.S. News ranked East Grand Rapids High School #12 in the State of Michigan and #504 nationally, earning a silver medal. Schools are ranked based on their performance on state-required tests and how well they prepare students for college.


Newsweek partnered with STEM.org to rank the top 5,000 Best STEM High Schools in America. The purpose was to determine which primary/secondary institutions in America best offer students experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) while preparing them for post -secondary outcomes. This list includes schools in every region of the country that offer skilled teachers who keep up with developments in these fields and who create dynamic learning environments to engage their students. East Grand Rapids High School ranked 8th in the state of Michigan, and 841st nationally. Additionally, East Grand Rapids High School was the only school in Western Michigan to be in the top 50. According to Nancy Cooper, Newsweek Global Editor in Chief, "We need to make sure that innate drive, curiosity, and creativity aren't lost along the way. These high schools are helping to ensure American's future in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics is in good hands."


The Michigan Department of Education recognized EGRHS as a REWARD SCHOOL from 2012-15 for its placement in the top 5% of schools on the Top-to-Bottom list.
