Lesson 1: Model Volume

In this lesson we found the volume of solid figures by counting cubes, or finding the area and multiplying by how many layers of cubes the object has.

Language: Write the term cubic units when recording measures of volumes of solid figures.

Lesson 2: Develop a Volume Formula

In this lesson we found the volumes of rectangular prisms using a formula (V=lwh or V=Bh).

Language: Read, and listen to, and apply a formula to find volume.

Lesson 3: Combine Volumes of Prisms

In this lesson we used find the volume of a solid figure that is the combination of two or more rectangular prisms by separating the figure into different rectangular prisms. We also had to use logic to find which measurements to use for each prism.

Language: Read labels of side lengths of solid figures that are a combination of two or more rectangular prisms.

In this lesson we used models, prior knowledge of volume, and previously learned strategies to solve word problems involving volume.

In this lesson we used previously learned knowledge about volume to choose the appropriate tools, such as grid paper, cube block, or different volume equations to solve volume problems.
