Bilingualism is the ability to speak two languages. This is a tremendous asset in our diverse world and a great skill for children to have. If you speak a language other than English at home, it is advised that you continue to expose your child to that language and foster it as much as you feel is appropriate in order to allow them opportunity to benefit from this unique opportunity.
Should I Only Speak English to My Child?
Recent research suggests that you should speak whatever language you feel most comfortable speaking with your child. Encouraging your child to maintain the languages they learn to speak over their lifetime is also a beneficial thing to do.
