It is expected that your student attends their session on time and is prepared as if they were attending school in person.
If your student will be absent from distance learning for the day for whatever reason, please email me so I can plan accordingly for the session.
Sessions will begin at their scheduled time. If your student is late to their session, the session will still end at the set scheduled time.
Please provide your student, as much as reasonably possible, a quiet place free of distractions for the duration of their session.
If your student will end up being alone in their session, you may be asked to sit in on the session.
If possible, please make sure that the student is sitting in a place with good lighting, without the lighting behind them so that their faces will be visible.
Prompting is when support is provided to a student to help them successfully complete a task. Please allow me to prompt your student and try not to prompt your student yourself. If you do give them any hints or support, please be honest and let me know. I track this data carefully, so I can determine if students are increasing in their independence in their skills.
Technology Suggestions
You will need a device with a webcam and a microphone to access therapy. District provided chromebooks or laptops, iPads, or other computers with webcams/microphones should be sufficient.
If possible, please have others in the household take a break from activities that use a lot of bandwidth (e.g. playing online games, watching videos, etc.) during your student's speech session time, in order to allow them to have the best connection possible.
You could consider providing your student with a headset to reduce background noise and increase the clarity of their speech over video chat. However, this is not required.
