This half term is bursting with exciting learning opportunities as we explore a range of special celebrations! We’ll begin by discovering the vibrant traditions of Diwali, followed by the sparkle and sounds of Bonfire Night. We’ll take time to reflect on Remembrance Day and its importance, and then look ahead to the joy and wonder of Christmas. Through stories, art, music, and discussion, children will deepen their understanding of these meaningful events and the values they represent.
Bonfire Night
Year 1 explored fireworks through vibrant crayons and paint art, then brought their creations to life with powerful verbs, vivid adjectives, and imaginative similes. From “crackling sparks” to “bright as stars,” the children combined expressive language and visual creativity to celebrate Bonfire Night in a joyful, cross-curricular burst of learning.
Printmaking!
We have been learning all about printmaking in our art lessons this half term. We have had a go at using classroom items and paint to print and even used shells and Lego pressed into plasticine to print onto paper using ink.
DT
This term, in our Celebrations topic, we’ve been learning about lots of different festivals, including Diwali. To help us experience a celebration for ourselves, we made our own fruit kebabs in class. This activity also linked to our DT objectives, as we practised important skills like chopping and peeling fruit.
