Behind the Lens will open up a wide variety of skills, allowing students to create their own media sequence with a strong focus on exploring production processes. The subject matches practical work with components of digital photography and media exploration. Students will use different media forms such as SLR cameras, all the way through to post-production editing software, to create digital pieces of work. 

In this elective, students will understand what goes on ‘behind the lens’ of a camera. Students will further develop their production processes skills to create a design brief aimed at turning their ideas into a finished product. They will also have the opportunity to experiment with their ideas on a variety of different media formats and softwares to prepare them for subjects both in year ten and VCE.

Take your first steps as aspiring directors and learn to create films like the masters. Explore the techniques used by filmmakers to turn an idea into a cinematic masterpiece by viewing a range of texts and following how the experts do it. Get hands-on experience working with video production equipment and video editing while learning to write, direct and produce. 

Experimentation will be key as you use all the tools provided to create multiple video projects ranging from simple sequences to documentaries and short narratives following the classic three act structure. You’ll enter this selective with a camera and an idea and exit as a director, capable of telling a story of the world around you, a story that matters to you.

You will also analyse a professional musical theatre performance. This unit has been designed for students who have an interest in theatre and musical performance projects.

In Sensational Sculpture, you will find yourselves immersed in the wonderful world of ceramics and three dimensional art forms. In this subject, you will be introduced to the fundamentals of ceramics. You will complete a range of practical tasks using different techniques, including the creation of a large, functional vessel that will be finished using glazes and mosaic tiles. Additionally you will have the rare opportunity to experiment with kiln formed glass. 

Students will also learn about the history of ceramics and sculpture as well as the practice of current ceramic and glass artists. They will learn how to compose written critiques, responding, analysing and interpreting artworks studied in class.

Eye of a Designer will unearth the hidden secrets of optical illusions and how you can use them to create bizarre and amazing works. This subject will allow you to create your own optical illusions in a range of styles and techniques including tessellations and impossible cubes exploring various ways that we can trick our brain. Experiment with design drawings to create an impossible artwork, create a mind bending artwork after finding inspiration from the incredible work of other artists and create your own mind altering independent work.
