TPS offers Instrumental Music lessons as an extracurricular activity for students. Instrumental Music lessons are taken by experienced instructors employed casually by our school to provide excellent music learning opportunities for your children and to ensure that our school philosophy around enjoyable and engaging Music learning and teaching is supported. These instructors have significant experience and training in their musical field.
Instrumental lessons being offered at Trafalgar Primary School in 2026
Guitar (electric/acoustic), Bass guitar, Ukulele, Piano, Drums, Singing, Piano/Singing (combined lesson)
Parents sign this form/agreement with the school and agree to pay the required music fee as an extracurricular activity.
This is not a free service, and payments offset the employment of our external music instructors. Parents are responsible for payments being made directly to the school at the beginning of each term when fees are charged to family accounts, we do not send an invoice, fees are attached to each student's family account and payment is to be made via BPAY, Direct Deposit or in person at the Admin Office.
If fees are not paid for by the first 2 weeks of each term, lessons may be cancelled until payment is made.
Instrumental students will receive 1 lesson per week (guaranteed 8 lessons per term).
Fees for instrumental music lessons are a flat rate of $240 per term, per instrument.
PLEASE NOTE:
Students are generally guaranteed 8 lessons per term, but they may get one or two more if there are no interruptions due to school events such as camps, excursions or public holidays. Catch-up lessons will only be conducted during the year where possible, for students who have missed lessons due to any school-based interruptions or instrumental music teacher absences.
Instrumental lessons are undertaken during class hours. The instrumental teacher will retrieve a student from their class and return them after the lesson. Students are not taken from Specialist classes and lessons are rescheduled if students are doing a test or other important task in their class.
Instrumental and singing lessons may be taught in groups depending on student skill and their interest in playing in bands as their skills progress, however, the vast majority of all lessons are individual unless otherwise stated by the instructor. Instructors will communicate with their students and parents via a performing arts diary/book/email/phone. It is the responsibility of the student to bring their instrumental music diary/book to each lesson so the instructor can record the date, time, lesson details and homework (practice).
If your child is absent on their regular lesson day and you haven't informed your instrumental teacher, this may still count as one of your minimum 8 lessons.
Students have the opportunity to showcase what they have learnt by participating in live performances at assemblies and/or instrumental concerts when their skills are at a suitable level for performance!
EXPECTATIONS:
It is expected that students will have access at home to a minimum standard of instruments required for the lessons they are undertaking. For example, DRUMS: students are expected to have their own set of drumsticks and a rubber practice pad (minimum) for rehearsal at home, a drum kit is preferable and far more engaging (If noise is an issue, electric drum kits can be an excellent solution). PIANO / KEYBOARD: Students are expected to have a piano, small keyboard, organ or similar instrument. GUITAR: Students are expected to have a guitar for guitar/bass lessons. The same applies for all other instruments.
If you are unsure of what is required and/or where to find such practice items, please contact Ricky Allan at the Trafalgar Primary School Music Department – Ph: Trafalgar Primary School: (03) 5633 1566

I currently also teach instrumental at Jak's Music Warragul.
Hi! I’m Georgia, I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember and playing piano for 3+ years. I have plenty of experience with playing live and recording with some great bands. I’ve worked with the ABC and Triple J whilst continuing my schooling at Trafalgar High School.
