Week 8

Being Me

Let's celebrate our individuality!

This week is Wear It Purple Day. Wear It Purple is a global movement that works to empower young queer people and celebrate diversity among our peers. It works to remind young people that they are loved, supported and exist within a community that will support them and encourage them to be proud of who they are, unconditionally. This celebration of diversity applies to all young people. We are all individuals and we all deserve to be able to celebrate our true selves.

This years WIPD theme is “WE ARE THE CHANGE” . This theme represents us, as a generation, implementing productive and inclusive changes in society. Now, more than ever, is a time to incorporate safety, inclusion and empowerment in schools and workplaces to fight adversity and marginalisation.

Question

What makes you unique?

What does it feel like to really 'be yourself'?

Can you be yourself all the time, or are there times when you have to hide aspects of your personality?

What is that experience of 'hiding' parts of you like?

Video

Watch the video below 'Dear my Year 7 Self'.

What do you think of the advice they gave themselves? What changed for them?

I have lots of question! How do I find out more?

Luckily for you it's really easy to find out more about the experiences of the LGBTIQ community. The ABC program 'You Can't Ask That' has a whole lot of your questions answered, so explore the videos below and educate yourself.
