Instructions You do not need to print this. ✍

Play on your device screen.

Materials:

Dice (2 or 3 depending on the game board)

10 coloured counters per player

A playing partner :)

How to play:

Children work with a playing partner. Each person will need 10 counters of their own colour. They take turns rolling 2 dice (board 1) or 3 dice (challenge board 2) and practise addition skills by counting on from the bigger number (for 3 dice, add all the numbers together). Find the house on the game board that matches the answer and place your counter on it. If the house already has the other player's counter on it, say 'get out of my house' and flick their counter off the board. Keep playing for a specified time (eg. 15 mins) and the player with the most of their counters on the board is the winner. Have lots of fun and play as many times as you like!

Tuesday -Task 2: Gingerbread Addition

Gingerbread Man addition template.pdf

Watch the video showing the boy playing the gingerbread addition game.

You will need:

  • 2 dice

  • the playing board template

How to play:

  • Roll the dice and place them on the board template like the boy shows you.

  • Start with the bigger number and place that many buttons on your gingerbread man.

  • Count on the next dice and add that many buttons to the first group. How many have you altogether?

  • Read the equation you have made, for example if you have rolled a 6 and a 3 you will say "6 and 3 is 9"

Be as creative as you like in your choice of buttons that you use!

You do not need to print this. ✍

You can draw a template yourself in your workbook.

Wednesday - Task 3: Flying through numbers

Please note the aim of this task to build fluency when reading increasingly larger numbers.

Instructions:

Materials:

  • 1 Dice

  • Game board - please choose an appropriate level game board that best fits your child's ability to read numbers.

  • You may play this straight off your device - download the game and choose your board.

How to play:

Roll the dice and your child reads the line of numbers that matches the number you have rolled. For example, if a 2 is rolled, they read the strip of numbers alongside the bolded number 2 on the board.

After they have played the game for a while, then please video your child reading the entire board of numbers from the chosen set.

Please do not video your child playing the game - only reading the board AFTER you have played so that they have had some exposure to the numbers before reading them for the video.
