Spanish 2025
Spanish 2025
Hola, ¿cómo estás? ¿cómo te llamas? ¿de dónde eres?
Me llamo Boris y soy de Chile. I'm a friendly, proactive language teacher who has also had the chance to experience the journey of learning another language. Spanish will be an opportunity for every student to learn not just the language, but also the values that represent a global citizen, such as empathy, curiosity and respect for other cultures. This is in conjunction with the school values of Responsibility, Teamwork and High Achievement.
If I have the opportunity to teach you, I will take you on a trip where you will learn many curiosities about the world and the Hispanic culture.
¡¡¡Chao, nos vemos en clases!!!!
Hola, I'm one of the Spanish teachers at Aitken Creek PS. I enjoy teaching Spanish through the use of the High Impact Teaching Strategies and the High Impact Wellbeing Strategies. In this blog, we'll keep you updated with what students are learning in Spanish along with examples of their amazing work. We hope you enjoy the learning journey of students at Aitken Creek PS. ¡Gracias!
Grade 3 - Term 4
Grade 3 students are exploring nouns by learning the names of common everyday items. They are practising their new vocabulary by writing in their Spanish books and enjoying interactive games like Bingo. These activities make learning Spanish exciting and help students remember words more easily while having fun with their classmates.
Grade 5 - Term 4
Our Grade 5 students are having a fun and interactive time learning numbers from 1 to 100 through addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Using exciting activities like Bingo and our Spinning Wheel, they practice their math skills while having a great time with friends. These games help students think quickly, improve accuracy, and build confidence with numbers in a playful and engaging way. Math has never been this exciting!
Foundation - Term 3
Our Prep students are having a fun start to their Spanish learning journey! They are exploring numbers and colours through songs, engaging visuals, and interactive activities. In class, they enjoy flashcard games, storytime, and watching Dora the Explorer to reinforce their learning. They also complete hands-on paper activities and play educational games on their iPads, such as Spanish Bus, to make learning exciting and interactive.
Our students are building a strong foundation in Spanish while having lots of fun along the way!
Grade 2 - Term 3
Exploring the Calendar and Beyond with Grade 2
This year, our Grade 2 students have embarked on a fun and meaningful journey through the calendar, integrating numeracy, literacy, and cultural connections. In Term 1, we built a strong foundation by learning to count, recognize, and write numbers from 1 to 30—an essential skill for understanding dates and sequencing events. During Term 2, our focus shifted to the months of the year, where students learned to name, spell, and order the twelve months, as well as associate them with seasons and special celebrations throughout the year.
Now, in Term 3, we are turning our attention to the days of the week. Students will be practicing how to write each day correctly, with a strong emphasis on phonemic awareness—learning how to say each day using the correct sounds. We are also making exciting cross-curricular connections to our Spanish language and science learning. Since the names of the days in Spanish are rooted in the names of planets and celestial bodies (such as lunes for the Moon and martes for Mars), this unit naturally connects to an exploration of the solar system. Through this integrated approach, students will not only deepen their understanding of time and language but also gain a sense of wonder about the universe around them.
Stay tuned as our young learners continue to explore the calendar—and the cosmos!
YEARS 1 - TERM 2 - 2025
Grade 6 is reinforcing familiar Spanish vocabulary from Foundation to Grade 5 through fun spelling activities. These exercises help students review and strengthen their language skills. The learning will culminate in an exciting Spelling Bee contest. Everyone is looking forward to showing what they’ve learned. The grand prize? A tasty burrito party celebration!

YEARS 1 - TERM 2 - 2025
During Term 2, students from Grade 1 have been learning the parts of the face and body by drawing and labelling them in class. They are also reinforcing this vocabulary by learning how to sing the song "Cabeza, hombros, rodillas y pies" (head, knees, shoulders and toes) in Spanish, making the learning process both fun and engaging.
During Term One, Grade Three designed a front cover for the book and got familiar with the classroom expectations. They also participate in activities to understand why the Spanish language is popular around the world. As the term progressed, students started to review the previous year's vocabulary by answering questions and writing letters to someone they love, and in written ways and playing kahoots.
To begin the term, we’ve expanded our vocabulary by learning how to say a variety of different types of transport in Spanish, such as ‘car’ (coche), ‘bike’ (bici), and ‘truck’ (camión). It was exciting to see how some words sound quite different from English, and it made us pay closer attention to pronunciation. In doing so, we’ve also discovered that some letters in Spanish have different sounds than they do in English. For example, the letter h in Spanish is silent, which was surprising at first! As the term goes on, we’re going to combine different sets of words to build simple sentences. We’ll be using colours to describe the transport, like saying what colour a car is, and numbers to say how many transports there are. It’s been a fun and interesting way to learn how Spanish sentences are structured. We’ve had a great start to the term, and we’re really looking forward to learning even more as the weeks go by.
Grade five started term one by designing a front cover for their notebooks based on the question, “What comes to your mind when you hear the word Spanish?”. After that, they got familiar with flags of the Hispanic world and drew them on their books.
Students also participated in written and spoken activities to know about each other by asking and responding about their favourite things.
Our last step in the term will be to review knowledge from previous years through a wheel of categories. For this, grade five students will spin a wheel, self-study the vocabulary category the wheel lands on and join a healthy Kahoot competition about that.
It's been a lot of fun :)
In Grade 5, we’ve continued to develop our Spanish skills by exploring rules of Spanish grammar. We’ve learned that in Spanish, it makes sense to put nouns first and then an adjective, whereas in English it’s the opposite. We’ve also learned new vocabulary to go along with what we learned in Term 1, which is a variety of words that develop in Spanish due to the rise of digital technologies, for example ‘keyboard’ and ‘computer’. As the end of the term approaches, we look forward to playing some Spanish Kahoots to revise our learning.
To start of Spanish in Grade 6, we went through the routines and expectations of our Spanish class. We began to learn that learning Spanish is easier than other languages because the Spanish alphabet is nearly identical to the English alphabet and because there are spaces between words. We also began to work on our front covers and learn new vocabulary which we'll be using in Term 1 to develop our Spanish knowledge skills. Below are some examples of our front covers and texts that we've begun to develop.
For term 4, we’ve started learning how to finish sentences correctly in Spanish that contain prepositions and house items. The reason why we’re learning this is because these types of sentences have different endings than they do in English - they cannot be translated the same way. To make sure we get it right and we have resources to help us as our learning progresses throughout the term, we created a cheat sheet which has the correct sentence ending for each house item we learned in Term 3. This is so we can look back / refer to it if need be. We’ve also practiced our speaking by saying and reading those sentences fully so we can familiarise ourselves with their structure. This will help us to form them from scratch later in the term.
In Grade 4 for Spanish, we have started to expand our vocabulary by learning how to say, read and write a variety of prepositions (for example left, right, above, below). Our learning activities have provided us with different ways to use and apply what we are learning in class. Also, the learning has been supported with a range of visuals featuring Gotchyas and using these to state where they are located. We look forward to continuing to grow and develop our Spanish skills throughout the rest of the year.
With a new semester having started, we’ve extended our vocabulary by learning how to say a variety of body parts in Spanish, like eyes (ojos), mouth (boca), and arms (brazos). It was fun and a bit challenging at first, but we’re getting more confident with each lesson. Our pronunciation has developed by practicing our speaking regularly, both independently and alongside our classmates throughout the Spanish lessons. We’ve also learned that some letters in Spanish are said with a different sound than in English, which makes the language interesting. For example, the letter j in Spanish has the h sound, as it's found in ojos (eyes) and orejas (ears). It was also interesting to note that Spanish has the same word for both fingers and toes, which is dedos. I hadn’t realised languages could group body parts differently like that. Overall, it’s been a fun way to continue learning how to speak Spanish and understanding how Spanish works.
In Grade 2, we have been learning how to say the days of the week in Spanish. We’ve also learned that when the days of the week are written in Spanish, they do not have a capital letter unless it’s the start of a sentence whereas in English, the days of the week always have a capital letter. As the term has progressed, we’ve become very good at familiarizing ourselves with these new words and how they are pronounced in Spanish. In Term 2, we look forward to learning how to say the months of the year and how to state the date.
In Prep, we have begun our Spanish learning journey. We’ve started to learn how to say lots of things such as greeting each other, a variety of manners such as ‘thank you’, ‘thank you very much’ and you’re welcome. We’ve also enjoyed completing learning activities that involve tracing, colouring, linking, writing, reading and learning how to count to 10. We’re also going to be learning how to say what our names are, how old we, how we feel and a variety of colours! We love Spanish and can’t wait to continue learning it.
