National Disability Insurance Scheme

Provides services/support for people with permanent, significant disabilities and their families/carers.  The National Disability Insurance Agency was established by the Federal government to implement the NDIS.

The NDIS is funded by the Federal AND State/Territory governments with the aim of allowing people with disabilities to live ordinary lives. 

Disability requirements:

•The condition or impairment is likely to be permanent (lifelong)

•The condition or impairment significantly decreases the ability to participate in activities or complete tasks unless they have assistance from others or through assistive technology…or they can’t participate even with assistance.

•The condition affects social & economic participation

•Support is likely to be required from NDIS for a lifetime
