What habitat do Southern Brown Bandicoots prefer?
The Species Profile and Threats database from the Department of the Environment and Energy and the Threatened Species Profile Page of the Office of Environment and Heritage inform us that Southern Brown Bandicoots prefer the following habitat :
1. High % of leaf litter coverage on the ground
2. Open forest
3. Ground dwelling invertebrates
4. Dense shrub layer between 0.2-1m high
5. Presence of Xanthorrhoea (a type of herb)
6. Presence of trees that are Banksia, Casuarina, Eucalyptus, Melaleuca and Acacia species
1. Sandy soils
2. Soils with acidic pH
3. Easterly aspect
