This past week we hosted Layni, a year 12 student from Tanilba Bay who was doing work experience. She is considering a career in teaching once she leaves school. Layni spent time in both classrooms, in the playground and interacting with the staff. By the time we said our goodbyes, not only was she convinced that teaching is the way to go, but she had made a whole bunch of new friends and potential colleagues in the process.
This week we also welcome two University of Newcastle teaching students who are slightly further along in their career pursuits than Layni. Please feel free to introduce yourselves to Miss Forbes and Mrs Honour and help them feel part of the Bobs Farm family, too.
Occasionally, when the weather is inclement, we spend our lunch breaks in the classroom. In recent months, it's been because of the incessant rain; however, recently, it was to escape the searing heat. It made for a perfect opportunity for all of the children to play together. It was such a positive and productive time that we decided to extend the break to allow everyone to keep playing. The results were amazing. Some children drew pictures together, some designed and built parachutes and tested them out, and some created tessellating designs with rubber bands and geoboards. The primary children mingled with the younger children, all happily cooperating and chatting. It was such a delight to observe.
It was so exciting that we've decided to plan a week of such activities in the last week of school. We're planning some fun STEM challenges and creative opportunities for the children to choose from and work together on. We can't wait!
