Last term during intentional play, Wubaray students made Aboriginal talking sticks to use during yarning circles. It serves as a tool to encourage respectful listening and sharing among participants. The talking stick is held by the person who is speaking, and others listen without interrupting. When the speaker finishes, the stick is passed on to the next person who wishes to share. Some talking sticks have also been sent home with students, so families can use them for yarning circles and sharing stories together. This project has helped everyone learn more about Aboriginal culture and traditions, making our yarning circles even more significant.
