Margaret and Karen from The Red Cross visited last week to help us learn about ways to prepare for emergencies. We were all given a pillow case to help us pack what is needed but also to remind us of what's important to take. For example, we listed essential items like first aid equipment, torches, mobiles and chargers, even comfort items to help prevent us from being scared. Each student also took home an activity book and guide for being prepared.
Later this year we will be having a visit from the emergency services to help us know more about preparing and what to do in the event of an emergency.
*Parents, be sure to read the instructions in the booklet for how to look after the pillowcase and for a checklist on planning for emergencies.
What a cracking blue-sky day it was last Thursday for the primary class's science excursion. It was a great day to explore the impacts of coastal erosion but also to develop an appreciation for just what we are aiming to understand and protect. Thank you to Mr Springfield and Miss Kish for taking the students on this fantastic learning experience.
Last Tuesday saw two exciting experiences happen for our primary students that involved showcasing their talents and hard work. Scotty's Cinema hosted both events: a matinee and an evening red carpet event.
The class joined students from other local public schools on a bus ride to Raymond Terrace, where they enjoyed a screening of all 18 films that were selected as finalists (from over 40 entries). Our film, The Yarn, tells a narrative about how people can develop a stronger sense of belonging by starting to yarn and getting to know each other better. There were lots of creative films with interesting ideas and valuable concepts featured.
In the evening, five of our students and their parents were invited to attend the special red-carpet screening of the films, which marked the culmination of this year's film festival. It was a night of glitz, glamour and a whole lot of grinning!
We are super proud of our students for the clever film they created and also for the exceptional way they conducted themselves throughout. It was a wonderful celebration of the incredible experiences and opportunities that exist in our public schools, and there was a delightful sense of community among all the guests, with each film receiving warm applause from the entire audience at both screenings.
