What a great day we had celebrating Culture Day on Friday. It was great to see so many members of our community connecting with each other and with culture.  Welcoming Uncle Leigh Ridgeway into the school for the first time in nearly 20 years and having students and staff from Tomaree High lead us in activities as well was a real treat for all of us. I was especially emotional after being presented with a handmade clay sculpture from Uncle Leigh to thank us for what we are doing here at Bobs Farm. This was followed by receiving one of the nicest emails I've ever received, from one of our non-Aboriginal families who had participated on the day, expressing how appreciative they were of the experience and of the cultural awareness and experiences we are providing here for the whole community. I certainly went into the long weekend with a huge smile on my face and the warmest feeling in my heart and soul. 

One exciting announcement from Friday was the renaming of our two classes. Given that we are no longer K-2 and 3-6, we decided to name the classrooms themselves rather than the classes in them. From now on, the classroom nearest the library is the GUPARR room. The other classroom is the WUBARAY room. 

Uncle Leigh shared the Worimi Dreaming story with us of how Biyami, the Creator Spirit, turned two dolphins, Guppar and Wubaray, into the first Worimi people as a reward for all they did to help protect the fish and marine species. This is why the dolphin is the totem of the Worimi people.  

Looking forward, we have a range of other rich experiences coming up as well. Firstly, we welcome two new members to our Bobs Farm Family - Miss Brien and Miss McMillan. They are our two university students doing their 2nd year practicum placement here with us till the end of the term. Please introduce yourselves and say hi when you see them. 🙂

Later this week, the students who purchased Star Struck tickets will go to enjoy the show at Newcastle Entertainment Centre. We are especially looking forward to seeing the Hodgsons' daughter, Kaylee, as one of the featured dance performers. 

We also have our annual NAIDOC March excursion for the entire school coming up later in June. So lots to look forward to. 

A huge thank you once again to those families who helped with cooking and serving the BBQ one Friday. We greatly appreciate your time, energy and enthusiasm in helping provide the food, but more importantly, in adding to that positive atmosphere on the day.
