Dear Wyong PS families,
Welcome to the final week of Term 2 – and what a term it’s been!
This week we are also proud to acknowledge NAIDOC Week. The 2025 theme, The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy, reminds us of the enduring strength and cultural resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We look forward to celebrating and learning together as a school community.
It’s hard to miss that there’s been a lot of illness doing the rounds lately – staff, students, and even myself have been hit hard (hence, no video message from me this week!). I want to sincerely thank all the families who have kept unwell children at home or picked them up when needed. Your support really helps reduce the spread, and this particular wave has been especially nasty.
Despite the sickness, this has been an absolutely mammoth term filled with energy, opportunity, and incredible commitment. I want to recognise the dedicated work of our amazing staff, who have gone above and beyond. Thank you to those involved in the Central Coast Dance Festival, Choral Choir, ES1 and Stage 1 excursions, Athletics Carnival, Public Speaking, Chess Competition, and our basketball, soccer, and netball teams. The amount of time, effort, and care that goes into organising and supporting these events doesn’t go unnoticed, and I am so proud of what we offer at WPS.
This week also marks our Parent/Teacher Interviews, which have been booked online via the Parent Portal. We’ve already had an overwhelming number of bookings – thank you for your engagement. Strong communication between home and school makes a big difference.
We’re also pleased to share that our Student Support Officer (SSO) – Youth Worker role will become permanent from Term 3. The position will be filled through a merit selection process early in the term. This is a huge win for our school and supports the wellbeing of all students.
I want to give a big shoutout to Mrs Marler, who has taken on the challenging task of juggling both APC&I roles this term. She has done so with professionalism, warmth, and a deep commitment to supporting staff and students. Thank you, Hannah!
We also send our very best wishes to Mrs Brechney, who is preparing to welcome a baby into the world. Her leave begins in Week 1, Term 3, and Ms George will be teaching KB for the remainder of 2025. We know the class is in wonderful hands and look forward to welcoming Ms George into the KB family.
A special mention to 5OC and Mrs Carter. It’s been a very smooth and positive start to life at Wyong PS for both the class and their teacher. Mrs Carter has created a strong sense of routine, friendship and learning, and we’re thrilled to have her on board.
And if you haven’t met him yet, Mr Byrne has been leading Year 2 this term, having joined us from a leadership role in Head Office. He’s quickly adjusted to the chaos (and charm!) of school life at Wyong PS and is doing a tremendous job as both a classroom teacher and Assistant Principal. Welcome and thank you, Mr Byrne.
Lastly, a quick update from our P&C: their current fundraising goal is to purchase new playground equipment, which we know will benefit our students immensely. A longer-term discussion also included the exciting possibility of a school bus. Please consider supporting our P&C’s efforts – every bit counts.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Have a safe and restful break, and we look forward to seeing everyone back, recharged and ready, in Term 3.
Warm regards,
Mitchell Welham
