Term 2, Week 6, 2025
The chickens have been the talk of the town this past fortnight. What a delight they have been to have in the school. The most rewarding part has been seeing the excitement on the children's faces and hearing it in their voices, telling me all about the new little beaks poking their way through egg shells or how a new little one has finally cracked through. Our little feathered friends have all been relocated to loving homes now, and the incubator has been collected, set to return sometime next year. We already can't wait!
I want to express a HUGE thank you to the staff who dedicated so much of their personal time, including on weekends, to come in and check on the incubator and to feed and water the little chicks. I know the children really appreciated the experience.
In other news, our student leaders joined their peers from around the region at the GRIP Leadership conference in Newcastle last week. This annual event engages participants in a wide range of activities to help build their organisational, planning, fundraising and inspirational leadership skills. It takes courage and confidence to inject yourself into an unknown situation with unfamiliar faces but I sensed Miss Kish's pride in our students demonstrating this when she recounted the day's events to me that evening. She described how maturely Jackson and Ella conducted themselves and stretched their comfort zones to maximise this experience. We are all proud of the three of you (yes, Miss Kish, you too!) We can't wait to engage with the activities and ideas you have planned for our school in the coming months.
I'm also looking forward to catching up with our community Thursday afternoon for our P&C meeting. We'd love for some more faces to join us, so if you can spare half an hour straight after school, come have a cup of coffee or tea and join in the conversation. We promise not to sign you up for anything (unless you want to of course!) We just want to make sure we're hearing the voices of people in our community and taking on board a range of ideas to help us continue to enhance the school.
Keep an eye out for information coming soon about parent/teacher interviews. These will be held in a slightly different format from those held in the past, so stay tuned for further details soon!
It's hard to believe we're past hump day already, too (that point where you go over the halfway 'hill' of the term). The time is flying by! We've got so much more to pack into the coming weeks. I'm looking forward to it!
