Aboriginal Education Officer, Renee Harwood, has commenced a series of activities at Bobs Farm PS to help build our cultural awareness and understanding.
Recently, Renee visited both the K-1-2 and 3-6 classes to help explain a little about cultural awareness and to help us create a collaborative NAIDOC Week artwork. We also began learning some cultural dance steps, incorporating the movements of some native animals like eagles, kangaroos and dolphins.
Children have also been given a NAIDOC colouring competition that they can enter, with some fabulous prizes up for grabs, including a family pass to Irukandji Shark and Ray Centre and a family sandboarding pass with Sand Dune Safaris.
Mrs Hodgson is not only our fabulous K-1-2 teacher, she's a gun touch football player and coach as well.
She put her expertise to good use last week by coaching our Bobs Farm PS touch team, who ventured to Clarence Town to take on Glen William PS in a knockout game.
Though sadly being on the receiving end of the 'knockout' part, the students all had a fantastic time and enjoyed every minute of the experience. We are proud of how all the children simply got in and had a go, and walked away with smiles on their faces, despite the result. Well done, kids!
Mr Croft and Miss Kish were also great assistants on the day, along with our amazing and ever-generous parent volunteer drivers, who helped get the students to and from the game.
