Student dance resource developed by The Arts Unit
Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 dance and visual arts
Your students will:
Let's dance 1
warm up with simple movement combinations
explore the basic elements of dance, actions of the body, dynamic qualities of movement, timing, spatial aspects and relationships.
follow instructions to learn a new dance
perform the 'Howdy Partner' dance.
Let's dance 2
warm up with simple movement combinations and counting to 100
listen and clap along to the beat of 'Ghost Riders in the Sky'
perform the 'Howdy Partner' dance to a faster piece of music
follow, dance and sing along to the 'Cowboy Dance' song.
Let's create
explore the colours and shapes of a sunset
create an artwork of a Wild West landscape.
Let's dance 1
DAES 1.1: participates in dance activities and demonstrates an awareness of body parts, control over movement and expressive qualities.
DAES 1.2: explores movement in response to a stimulus.
DAES 1.7: performs simple dance sequences incorporating basic movement skills and patterns.
Let's dance 2
DAES 1.1: participates in dance activities and demonstrates an awareness of body parts, control over movement and expressive qualities.
DAES 2.7: performs familiar movement patterns in a variety of dance situations.
Let's create
VAES1.1: makes simple pictures and other kinds of artworks about things and experiences.
Google Form: create a Google form with activities and/or questions. Students can also upload any files they create. Email this form to your students with the Creative Class link and all your student responses will be combined in a Google sheet.
Google Classroom Assignment: create an assignment or a quiz in your Google Classroom with activities and/or questions. Students can also upload any files they create.
MS Teams: create a quiz or assignment in your class team drive where students can submit responses and upload any files they create.
Email: ask your students to email you any responses and files they create.
Flipgrid: a website that allows teachers to create 'grids' to facilitate video discussions. Each grid is a message board where teachers can pose questions called 'topics'. Students can post video responses that appear in a tiled grid display.
Jamboard: an interactive whiteboard which can be used for class feedback.
Download and print these documents to send to students with limited access to online resources.
