Overview
Lesson 3 focuses on student performance.
Students perform an accompaniment to the music of The High Road.
Learning intentions
Through this lesson:
all students will recognise that music has a beat
most students will perform confidently, maintaining the beat
some students will need teacher support to maintain the beat.
Assessment opportunities
Student progress can be monitored through a range of assessment strategies and differentiated according to individual student needs. Assessment opportunities could include:
observation of students maintaining the beat with body percussion and bucket drumming
observation of student engagement with the repertoire.

One or 2 students could play the drums pattern in the introduction
Instructions
Each student has a bucket on the floor in front of them.
Students copy the teacher performing the beat as section 1 of The High Road is played:
1, 2, 3, 4.
Repeat this pattern as required.

Each student has a bucket on the floor in front of them and 2 rulers.
Students copy the teacher performing the beat as section 2 of The High Road is played. Tap the rulers together gently:
1, 2, 3, tap.

Instructions – extension
Each student has a bucket on the floor in front of them.
Students play a repeated quaver pattern instead of the beat as section 2 of The High Road is played.
