Within the entertainment industry roles can be categorised into various groups, including:
creative or design team
technical team
performers
builders
venue
production administration.

Summarise each of the key roles and responsibilities of each of the key personnel in the entertainment industry.
Identify which category they are a part of and if they can be included into more than one based on their roles and responsibilities.

Brainstorm the personal attributes and work ethics valued by the entertainment industry.
Consider:
interpersonal skills
personal workplace skills
personal presentation and standards for a specific job role
behaviour to support a safe and sustainable work environment
personal values.
Specific workplaces and experiences may differ between workplaces. A role description is a useful document to ensure an employee has a clear description of the role they are undertaking.
A role description will include:
an outline of duties and responsibilities for a specific job role within the entertainment industry.
details of the relationship between individual workers and the team/work group
the difference between individual and workplace goals and plans
industry standards and workplace policy, guidelines and procedures.
The entertainment industry is always evolving and adapting and as an employer or employee it is important to maintain currency of your knowledge and skills.
From your understanding of research and sourcing information, discuss individual and workplace strategies to maintain industry currency. For example this could include training, professional reading and professional development.
The planning and organising of a range of tasks or activities is applicable to the daily work routine of any worker in an entertainment industry workplace.
There are often many influences on these work practices that need to be navigated for a successful and effective outcome. These may include; production flow, interruptions and time variances typical to live performances and events.
The application of effective time and task management techniques to all work tasks or activities in an entertainment industry workplace is vital.
Research and discuss how the following techniques influence work practices:
constraints
negotiation
delegation
communication
prioritisation
planning
time management.
As an employee, it is essential to be involved in improving your knowledge, understanding, skills and productivity. There is a strong connection between evaluating work performance and improving work practices.
There are many forms and sources of feedback, including:
personal reflection
formal/informal
direct/indirect
It is the responsibility of a worker to seek and provide feedback to improve themselves in the workplace.
Outline strategies to improve work practices and client/customer outcomes?
Discuss the following questions:
What is the value of feedback to an individual worker, the workplace and the industry?
What are strategies for obtaining and interpreting feedback from supervisor(s) and colleagues?
How should an employee deal with positive feedback?
How should an employee deal with negative feedback?
Workplace policy and procedures requires strict record-keeping and reporting of employee work practices and evaluations. Confidentiality and privacy of the recording process are required through legislation.
Discuss typical lines of communication and reporting within the entertainment workplace, including:
indirect dialogue with supervisors
formal meetings
written evaluation reports.
The live production, theatre and events industry is constantly being affected by emerging technology, just as other industry sectors have. The technological advances in live production, theatre and events has a dramatic influence on the industry.
New developments in technology, especially computer hardware and software, have improved the live production, theatre and events industry in numerous ways, including:
faster and more effective designing capabilities
innovative cost and project management software
sophisticated sound and lighting design and operation
communication
broadcast and projection equipment
use of multi media in productions
wireless technology support.
