To give yourself a head start to gain work, an Apprenticeship, Traineeship or further study, you can choose to study a school delivered VET course, a TAFE delivered VET (TVET) or other externally delivered VET (EVET) course as part of your HSC!

There are many occupations that require the completion of an Apprenticeship qualifications. If you would like to become a fully qualified tradesperson, chef, or hairdresser for eg., you will need to complete an Apprenticeship. Choosing HSC subject/s related to the Apprenticeship you wish to undertake will greatly assist you. Completing a School Based Apprenticeship (SBAT)will allow you to actually commence your Apprenticeship whilst still at school.

Traineeships are a great way to enter the workforce after school as they provide paid work and training at the same time. Choosing HSC subject/s related to the Traineeship you wish to undertake will greatly assist you. Completing a School Based Traineeship (SBAT) whilst at school will provide a direct pathway into employment after high school.

If you would like to head straight into the workforce and don't wish to go university straight after high school, only three of your six subjects will need to be Board Developed Courses (English and two others). It will be very helpful for you to choose subjects that relate to your chosen career area and also provide you with practical work-related skills and experience.
You should especially consider studying a VET subject to help you get work ready and also look out for School Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship.
