A child’s transition to school starts well before and extends long after the child’s first day. A successful transition to school can depend on a variety of factors. Our Transition to School Program aims to help make that transition as smooth as possible.
Our Transition to School Program is designed to support your child to become comfortable with their teachers, future classmates and the types of activities they will be doing when they become a part of our unique and exciting school. It also enables them to become familiar with the layout of the school and its facilities.
Your child is invited to attend three Transition to School sessions where they will participate in various activities supported by their 2026 Year 6 Buddy.
Our Transition to School days, for Kindergarten 2026 will be:
Thursday 6th November 2025: 9:15am - 10:45am. Your child will meet their buddy and participate in a range of activities with them.
Thursday 13th November 2025: 9:15am - 10:45am. Your child will participate in various activities supported by their buddy.
Thursday 20th November 2025: 9:15am - 10:45am. Your child will participate in various activities supported by their buddy.
Thursday 27th November 2025: 9:15am - 10:45am. Rainbow day! Your child will join their buddy in a carnival type atmosphere in the playground, and will have lots of rainbow fun! A fruit platter will provided on the day for sharing.
Buddy System
The Buddy System has been a part of the Broulee Public School Transition Program for many years and has proven most successful with our Kindergarten students.
Your child will be introduced to his/her buddy during their first Transition session. The buddy will be a student (or two) from Year 5 (2025), whose role is to be a support, guide and friend to look after their Kindergarten buddy at school and in the playground. This buddy will stay with your child when they start school in 2026 and continue to join them beyond transition for activities and special visits throughout the year.
*Please note that if your child is unable to attend the Transition sessions they will be assigned a buddy on the first day they attend.
The program provides dual benefits:
Kindergarten children will have a familiar face, someone to look after them when you are not around, someone to take them to the Canteen and someone to play with during those first few weeks until they begin to establish their own group of friends.
Older students learn leadership and mentoring skills and have the opportunity to nurture their younger buddy.
