First Day of School 2026
Your child will start their first day of Kindergarten by being welcomed with excitement by their buddy.
The first day has been designed to be memorable and fun in a comfortable, stimulating and safe environment. Each child is assigned to a group with their Year 6 buddy and will rotate through various activities including craft, music, fundamental movement skills, games, a school tour and play during the morning with their buddy.
These activities take place in different locations within the school, familiarising your child with places and faces they will see from day to day within the school grounds.
** Your child's first day of the 2026 school year will be Monday 2nd February. **
** The first day for Kindy 2026, will start at the slightly later start time than the remainder of the school - 9:30am **
** All children throughout the school will start on the same day. **
Please bring your child along to the Kindergarten rooms ready to start school at 9:30am where their big buddies will be waiting to greet them. They will be so excited to see them after the holiday break!
Our Best Start Appointments will be held later in the term during the school day. Your children will continue to attend school as usual for these.
*Refer to the Best Start FAQ for an explanation of Best Start.
What does my child need on the first day?
Your child will need:
a back pack
lunch box
drink bottle
broad brim hat
reassurance and a smile
We advise packing a spare pair of underpants and shorts/culottes just in case of any accidents.
Please be sure to clearly label ALL belongings with your child's name.
We will send out a list of requested classroom supplies during the January holidays to purchase, bring along and share with the class.
Eating at school
We have 3 breaks to eat at Broulee Public School
10am - Crunch & Sip
11am - 11:40 Lunch (supervised eating for 10 mins)
1:10pm - 1:40 Recess
There is definitely not a "one size fits all" when it comes to packing school lunches. Some children have a sandwich, fruit and snack everyday and others go their entire school life without ever touching a sandwich. Your child's lunch box fillings are only limited by your imagination and your child's palette.
We find it best to pack a range of small things for your child to eat, as sometimes a big sandwich, roll or wrap can be overwhelming. You know what your child likes, don't be afraid to send in whatever works for you. We have children who bring in hommus and vege sticks, cheese and crackers, roast lamb and veges, thermos with chicken and pasta, rice crackers, snow peas, muffins, pretzels, berries and everything in between. We encourage healthy eating and a balanced diet and request to please not send in chocolates or lollies. Please do not send in peanut butter, nuts or nut products.
Our school is a Crunch & Sip school. Crunch & Sip is a time (10am) for students throughout our school to eat vegetables and fruit and drink water. Students bring fresh vegetables and/or fruit and a water bottle to school each day for the Crunch & Sip break. Giving students the chance to re-fuel with fruit or vegetables helps to improve physical and mental performance and concentration in the classroom, as well as promoting long term health.
There are many lunchbox ideas on the Crunch & Sip website here.
Home Time
We're pretty sure that you will pick up your child from school on the first day. Please try to do this from the back gate, as it is the safest place for pick up, and is a wonderful way for your child to greet you at the end of the day.
Going forward, at the end of each day students will be organised into respective lines for how they are getting home (pick up from back or front gate, bus, after school care, walking). From there they will be walked to the designated area by a teacher.
Please keep your child's class teacher informed of how your child is going home, preferably on the form handed out by teachers to complete during Best Start appointments. Please do not expect your child to remember how they are going home each day, as after a full day of school, they often forget.
If there is a change in pick up routine, please phone the front office on 4471 6120 before 2:30pm and a message will be taken around to your child's classroom.
