Environmental and sustainability education introduces students to connections between people, their culture and their environment.
Stage 5 Geography - Coastal Change and Management - Stockton Beach
Students investigate causes, extent and consequences of natural and human-induced environmental change at Stockton Beach. Students discuss biophysical processes and collect data on the physical environment. They investigate and evaluate the management (including Aboriginal management) of environmental change in this coastal environment.
The program will include:
Introduction
Data collection on aspects of the physical environment (e.g. Air temperature, humidity, wind speed, wind direction ) and discussion biophysical processes
Conduct an investigation of micro and macro plastics at this location
Field sketch
Examination of waves, currents and coastal processes and longshore drift

This is a 4 hour field work program conducted at Stockton Beach.
The basic program will be changed to suit larger groups or weather conditions.
The start and finish point for this excursion is Stockton Beach Surf Club.
Fieldwork is conducted at Stockton Beach, in the dunes and on the beach. Although the students are working in a public area they remain in groups at all times.
What to bring:
Printed worksheets, clipboard and pencils, recess and lunch, refillable water bottle, hat, sunscreen, covered walking shoes plus any special requirements of the group. Wet weather gear when necessary. Non-aerosol insect repellent is advisable in summer.
Awabakal EEC is a NSW Department school and staff are trained DoE teachers specialising in Environmental Education. Awabakal EEC teachers rely on the participation of visiting teachers to meet recommended supervision levels. Visiting teachers are ultimately responsible for behaviour of students, students with existing medical conditions or special needs.
