Learning experiences in the natural environment help students to develop positive attitudes and skills for life.
Awabakal Environmental Education Centre offers a range of educational excursion opportunities for students from Kindergarten to Year 12. All programs are linked to NSW Syllabus outcomes and content and reflect the site of the excursion.
Programs fulfil curriculum requirements for science, history, geography, biology, investigating science and also provide opportunities to link with other key learning areas.

Awabakal Environmental Education Centre, as been operating since 1976 and provides environmental and sustainability education for students and teachers in Newcastle and the Hunter Region. Awabakal EEC has two campuses: Dudley Campus (previously known as Awabakal EEC) and Wetlands Campus (previously known as Wetlands EEC). Dudley campus, the adjacent Awabakal Nature Reserve provides excellent field work opportunities to compare habitats and assess human impacts.
Excursions are conducted at a range of locations including Awabakal Nature Reserve, Glenrock State Conservation Area, Merewether Beach and Redhead Beach. Hunter Wetlands Center at Shortland, Newcastle Foreshore, Stockton Beach and Kooragang Island.
