SMART Goals
This year we are using SMART goals to help us focus on areas to improve. I found this picture to help remind me what the different letters stand for.
My English goal for Term 1
Specific
My goal in English is to work on using PEEL paragraphs correctly.
Measurable
I will measure this goal by looking back at my work and correcting it.
Attainable
To attain my goal I need to break my writing down and look back at the Point, Explain, Evidence and Link scaffold in my book.
Relevant
My goal is meaningful to me because I want to improve and know how to write a good paragraph in preparation for high school.
Timely
My goal should be achieved by the end of this year.
My reflections
Term 1, Week 3 - This week we used a special checklist to help us improve our writing. I really like using the checklist because it makes me focus on what I still need to focus on with my writing.
Term 1, Week 5 - We did a writing task in class this week and we had to swap our work with a partner to check. My partner was Riley. He gave me some really helpful feedback which I am going to try and remember next time we have to do some writing.
Term 1, Week 7 - I think my writing has improved a lot since the start of the term. I know that I still need to work on including more evidence in my writing though so I am going to try really hard to focus on this over the next few weeks.
My Maths goal for Term 1
Specific
My goal in Maths is to solve more challenging word problems involving subtracting decimals.
Measurable
I will check all of my work and identify areas where I need to improve.
Attainable
I will complete all word problems that my teacher sets. I will also challenge myself to write some word problems to solve.
Relevant
This goal is relevant because it will help me to better solve more challenging word problems when I go to high school.
Timely
I am aiming to reach this goal by the end of Term 1. This will give me time to still learn other things about decimals.
My reflections
Term 1, Week 3 - I have been trying really hard to work on this goal and asking lots of questions in class to help me understand what I need to focus on.
Term 1, Week 5 - We did a Maths quiz on word problems with decimals this week. I got 9/10 correct!
Term 1, Week 7 - My teacher gave me extra word problems to practice this week. I even wrote some of my own. The teacher checked them and gave me some really helpful feedback.
My personal goal for Term 1
Specific
My personal goal is to get 9-11 hours of sleep each night.
Measurable
I will measure this goal by having a set bedtime and using an alarm set for 9-11 hours later.
Attainable
To attain my goal I need to use a calendar to prioritise projects and activities. I will also switch off technology at least 1 hour before I go to bed.
Relevant
My goal is relevant because proper sleep is important for my brain and body to function and stay focused on my learning.
Timely
I am aiming to reach this goal before the end of the term. This will help me to create a routine for the rest of the year.
My reflections
Term 1, Week 3 - This goal has been harder than I thought it would be! I really need to work on putting down all of my devices 1 hour before bedtime. I think I am going to leave my iPad on the kitchen bench so I don't get distracted before bed!
Term 1, Week 5 - So far this week I have gotten at least 9 hours sleep every night!
Term 1, Week 7 - My family went out for dinner for my brother's birthday last night so I didn't go to bed until 9pm and then I woke up early so I didn't reach my goal. I am going to try and go to bed earlier tonight.
