The self proclaimed 'Professor' Hackett was first to propose a cable vehicle linking Hobart to the top of the mountain.
The next proposal had government backing and laws were passed to enable the construction.
With five stations this was an ambitious scheme. The Great Depression and a newly built road to the mountain top put an end to this plan.
The Government granted land for the construction, but local residents banded together to stop this proposal.

With 80 passengers in each 'Sky box' this would have been a very large construction. Even with even more Government legislation to aid the project it did not happen due to lack of funds.
