The Skyrail in the mountains west of Cairns passes over World Heritage listed tropical rain forest, and over the traditional lands of the Djabuguy people.
It won the 1996 EIBTM European Greening of Business Tourism Most Environmentally Conscious Visitor Attraction Award and the 2008 and 2009 Qantas National Award for Excellence in Sustainable Tourism.
In 2012, it was the first tourism attraction in the world to receive Platinum EarthCheck Accreditation.
A World Heritage listing gives an area legal protection by an international convention administered by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). World Heritage Sites are designated by UNESCO for having cultural, historical, scientific or other form of significance.
The construction of the Skyrail through World Heritage Listed tropical rainforest meant very strict environmental protection.
