School Bin Management
Pre Bin Installation Checklist:
1. Quick tally of bins received and a review of the plan of where to put them.
(Make sure new bins are always in bin stations with landfill/general bins, never a Return&Earn/organics bin on its own!
You can progressively stage the rollout of new bins according to your school's context, Return&Earn, then organics etc.,).
2. Double check your school's waste pick up services will commence from the same week the bins arrive (Wk 1, T3) - unless on new contract (check with Zoe).
3. Communicate with ALL staff what is happening and HOW it will work to get their support, staff meetings (including exec and principal), cleaners, GA's and office staff.
Who will be doing what and what are the overall aims of the waste reduction program. (E.G: PBL on waste reduction program - see website below).
4. Communicate with ALL students what is happening and HOW it will work to get their support (school assemblies).
5. Develop a weekly student roster of who will check the progress of bin use across the school and score the efficacy of their use - see website below.
6. Put bins out in the same week your pick up service commences.
7. Report your bin use findings regularly at assemblies and remind everyone of WHY we are doing this and HOW we are using the bins.
(You can do small knowledge quizzes with each class and staff - see website below).
8. Review your school's WRAP's and modify as necessary and seek to embed it as part of the school operations / school plans (see website below).

Bin Station Signs
Bin station signs should be designed by students (if possible) and be specific to the needs of your school. Look at the most common types of waste you find during your waste audit and take pictures of them as examples for your sign design. These signs were designed using Canva as it is free easy for students to use.
The bin stations were designed by the Woodport Public School GA Stuart Brown and were paid for using the Sustainable Schools Grant.
Ready built metal bin stations can be purchased at schools own expense (can cost up to $3500 per station) - useful link here
