In August 2024, Picton High School had an Olympic Day, which was such an incredible success and reflects the hard work of the PDHPE faculty and wider school community. The energy, enthusiasm, and spirit that filled the air were truly remarkable, and as a school we couldn’t be prouder.
From the very start, it was clear that our students were ready to give it their all. Everyone participated eagerly in every event, showcasing strong athletic abilities but also dedication to teamwork and school spirit. Whether you were competing in the activities provided, or cheering on your team from the sidelines, you did so with passion and determination.
One of the highlights of the day was the sportsmanship displayed by students, teachers and the wider community. You cheered for your teammates, congratulated your opponents, and maintained a positive attitude regardless of the outcome. This is what true Olympic spirit is all about – not just striving to win, but also respecting and supporting one another along the way.
A special mention must go to our Year 12 students, who faced off against the teachers in both volleyball and soccer. You gave us a run for our money, and the effort you put in was outstanding. It’s not easy to challenge your teachers, but you did so with great skill and determination. However, I must also commend PHS staff for their performance in both games. While the students put up a fantastic fight, the teachers ultimately proved to be too strong in both matches. But the real victory lies in the camaraderie and friendly competition that these games fostered.
A notable mention to all students who received gold, silver and bronze medals for your effort, sportsmanship, leadership and skills on display. Similarly, it is also worth noting the champion teams for each year group
· Year 7- Japan
· Year 8- Brazil
· Year 9- Tonga
· Year 10/11Egypt
Lastly, I want to thank everyone – students and staff, for making this Olympic Day a memorable and successful event. Your enthusiasm and sportsmanship are what make Picton High School a place where we can all take pride. Let’s carry the spirit of today forward in everything we do. Thank you, and well done to all!
Kind regards,
The PDHPE Faculty.
