Picton High School has a wide range of sports and activities for students to choose from to keep them active during school sport.
School Sport is held every 2nd Tuesday (Year 7 & 8 one Tuesday and Year 9 & 10 the following)
Some sports are held onsite at school, while other sports are held offsite
Students may need to walk or catch a bus to the venue
Prices to attend school sport range from FREE to $20 per fortnight.
Students should choose a sport they are interested in, that is supported by parents/carers.
A new sport is chosen each school term, however they are welcome to choose the same sport over multiple terms.
Some sporting venues and activities will provide the sporting equipment, while other venues require students to bring equipment.
School finishes early every Tuesday at 1.10pm.
There are early buses on a Tuesday, however they are slightly different than afternoon buses.
Late buses still run on a Tuesday afternoon.
Sport is a compulsory part of the curriculum for students in Years 7-10.
There are a few requirements for students to attend school sport
1) Uniform - all students must be in school sport uniform with appropriate shoes to attend school sport. If attending sport outside a hat and sunscreen is advised. All students should have a drink bottle to use during sport.
2) Permission and Payment - It is vital that all parents and carers log onto School bytes to ensure they have provided...
Permission to attend sport
School Sport Permission, Injury and Consent
Payment for sport (if required)
Students who do not have PERMISSION & PAYMENT (if required) will not be able to attend sport.
3) Waiver - This may or may not be required, depending on the sport. Waivers are submitted directly to the venue and do not have any connection to the school. If parents & carers have not completed this waiver, venues will not allow students to participate. Sports that require waivers include:
Flip Out Mittagong (Complete online waiver: https://flipout.com.au/waiver/mittagong/)
4) Behaviour - Student behaviour will be monitored throughout the term. Poor behaviour prior to leaving for sport, during sport or on return from sport until the bell may result in Sports Detention or possibly removal from the sport altogether.
5) High risk sports - Flip Out is a high-risk sport that could cause extensive and/or life-threatening injuries. Therefore, it is vital that students attending this sport demonstrate the ability to follow instructions, lowering this risk of injury. Students with high numbers of negative incidents on Sentral or have incidents that are high risk in nature, may also be removed from this sport selection. Students who show 10 or more negative incidents per term will be removed from this sport.
Sport choices change each term, however many popular sports run every term. Students select from over 15 sports online via School bytes. Parents and carers approve these sports and make payments through School bytes. Some sporting options that may be available include:

Do students need permission to go to sport?
Yes. All students need to online permission provided by parents/carers for sport. Particularly any students who have chosen an offsite sport, these students will not be able to attend sport if permission has not been granted via Schoolbytes.
What happens if my parent/carers are having issues with Schoolbytes?
If parents/carers do not have access to internet, please send in permission note with your child to attend sport. Payment can be made with cash or card at the front office.
How much will sport cost?
Sport cost will depend on the sport chosen by your child. Some sports are FREE, while others come with a fortnightly cost.
What happens if my child signs up for a sport that I cannot afford?
Firstly, all parents and carers should speak openly about what sports your child can choose as some sports are expensive. Students are also told to consider this when choosing sports. However, if there is an issue, or you do not wish for your child to know there is problems with cost, please call the school or email the Sports Coordinator and your child can be moved immediately into a free sport. This is not an issue and can be easily worked out.
What sports are there to choose from?
Each term students will need to check the sports list before selecting their sport. Lists may change due to the season (winter or summer sports), loss of venues, opening of new sports etc.
When do students pick a sport?
At the beginning of each year, Year 7 & 8 students will select sports within the first week back to school. Year 9 & 10 students select at the end of each term. For all Year 7 students in Term 1, they will be shown how to use the Schoolbytes system to select their sports. From Term 2 onwards Year 7 will be required to select their own sports. All students in Years 8 to 10 must choose their own sports each term.
Where do students or parents find the links to choose the sports or to pay and give permission?
All students are emailed out the link to choose a sport for the term. Once the sports are selected, parents and carers are then sent out the email with permission link and payment (if required). If you cannot find this or are having issues, please call the office.
What happens if my child is new at the school and has not chosen a sport?
Any new students at the beginning of the year in Years 8-10 or mid-term in Years 7-10 are to see the Sports Coordinator to choose a sport for the term.
What happens if they do not like the sport they are in?
Student may want to change their sport because their friends didn't get into the same sport, they do not like their sport, or they have simply changed their minds. If this is the case, students have the first two weeks only at the beginning of each term to change their sport. After Week 2, students are no longer able to change until the following term as numbers have been provided to venues and teachers allocated for the term.
What happens if my child is injured or has an illness preventing them to attend sport during the term?
If your child is injured or serious illness, please either call or email the school to explain the situation. You may also send a note with your child to school and your child can bring this note to the Sports Coordinator. A medical certificate will be required to get either a refund or credit for the weeks your child will be off sport. Your child will be placed into Non-sport for the duration of the injury or illness.
