At Narrandera HS we prioritise student wellbeing with the belief that if students feel safe and happy with a self of belonging, they will engage in classroom learning and see educational success.
We have a Head Teacher Wellbeing, Mrs Brooke Lucas, who oversees the wellbeing programs across the school. If you would like to access any of the programs please make contact with Mrs Lucas on 6959 1744.
Intervention Centre
The school has the Intervention Centre which is a space that students are able to access for wellbeing support. The room is quiet and calm and allows students to regulate thier emotions before returning back to learning. The room is staffed by a teacher and SLSO.
Clontarf Academy
The Clontarf Foundation exists to improve the education, discipline, life skills, self-esteem and employment prospects of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and by doing so equips them to participate more meaningfully in society.
Stars Foundation
Our program is based on strong, trusting relationships. The Stars Room provides a culturally safe, warm environment – a place where the girls and young women in our program feel nurtured and inspired.
Hands on Learning
Selected students have the opportunity to follow a program to achieve academic learning, knowledge and skills by learning in an alternate setting to the classroom. This program provides students with time to see success while learning by doing. It is acknowledged that students all learn in different ways and this program is there to support students and offer them an alternate learning program and space.
Personalised Wellbeing Programs
Staff create opportunities to suit the needs of inidividual or small groups of students. Currently we have a group of students planning, designing and constructing a Bush Tucker garden on school site. Another group of students are engaging in a specific program where they are fixing broken down lawn mowers and other mechanical pieces providing opportunities to learn to problem solve, demonstrate resilience and have meaningful conversations with trusted adults while being hands on.
Aboriginal Learning and Engagement Centre (ALEC)
This initiative aims to addresss the wellbeing, academic and cultural support to enhance outcomes for secondary Aboriginal students. A key focus of Aboriginal Learning and Engagement Centres (AL&ECs) will be to improve student engagement, attendance, retention, HSC attainment and support for students at key transition points to progress through High School.
The Learning and Engagement Centre will provide personalised support to increase the proportion of Aboriginal students attaining Year 12, while maintaining their cultural identity. The Learning and Engagement Centre will also:
• Improve the educational outcomes and wellbeing of Aboriginal students so that they excel and achieve in every aspect of their education.
• Ensure collaborative decision making with Aboriginal peoples, parents and carers, families and their communities.
• To meet the learning needs and support the cultural knowledge and identity of every Aboriginal student.
• Ensure that every targeted Aboriginal student is known, valued and cared for.
