We're rerunning our free online nature journaling sessions weeks 1-5 of term 4. You're welcome to attend again - as the sessions are live, each one will be different! You can join us any week you'd like. Sessions are targeting primary school students. Siblings and families are welcome.

Teacher note: There are only 500 places available. If you plan to send multiple classes or a stage, contact us to organise a separate session.

Student safety is a priority. You will not be able to turn on your camera or microphone. Q&A will be monitored and chat disabled. The session will not be videoed.

Session 1 - leaves

Wednesday 6 October

Session summary

Examine leaves up close. Use pencil or crayon to take a leaf rubbing. Follow along with Celia to make a detailed drawing of a leaf using pencil. Add colour if you have watercolour paints or coloured pencils. Describe your leaf and ask questions or make 'I wonder...' statements about your leaf.

What to bring

  • a collection of leaves - try to collect a variety of leaves that have different shapes and textures

  • a pencil

  • a few pieces of paper or a nature journal (you can use an art diary, an exercise book or notebook for a nature journal, or you can make your own!)

What you could bring (optional)

  • treasures you have found from nature

  • pencils of different grades (weights)... e.g. 4B, 6B, 8B, HB, B

  • eraser/rubber

  • coloured pencils

  • watercolour paints

  • crayons

  • oil pastels

  • chalk

  • pens or ink

  • magnifying glass
