Dear Parents / Caregivers,
National Reconciliation Week
To mark the commencement of National Reconciliation Week, our school participated in Wear It Yellow Day in support of Children’s Ground. Thank you to all families who donated. We are proud to have raised and donated $180.85 to support First Nations children and communities.
At YPS, we have a very passionate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Team. If you would like to be involved, please reach out to Mrs Burton. We have recently refreshed our RAP and are looking forward to delivering on the actions identified by the team.
Staffing Update
Congratulations to Mrs Lisa Last, who has been successful in a merit selection process and has been appointed as the permanent Assistant Principal at Bankstown North Public School. Mrs Last will commence her new role at the beginning of Term 3, and we wish her every success in this exciting next chapter.
Congratulations also to Mrs De Lynch (our current APCI), who has been successfully transferred into the Assistant Principal position at YPS. As the APCI role is currently guaranteed by the Department only until the end of 2027, we are thrilled that Mrs Lynch will remain on our executive team and continue to share her outstanding expertise with our staff and students.
Mrs Lynch will continue in the APCI role temporarily until the position is phased out by the Department. In the meantime, Mrs Kristen Edwards and Mrs Cindy Burton will continue relieving as Assistant Principals.
From Term 3:
Mrs Stevie Stewart will be Assistant Principal for Stage 2 from Tuesday to Thursday.
Mr Peter Kingham will be Assistant Principal (Years 3–6) on Mondays and Fridays, and Stage 3 on Tuesday-Thursday.
Mrs Kristen Edwards will continue as Assistant Principal for Early Stage 1.
Mrs Cindy Burton will continue as Assistant Principal for Stage 1.
Mrs Sophie Poulos was permanently appointed to YPS at the end of 2025, but has been working as a Home School Liaison Officer. As these roles are being discontinued by the Department from next term, we are delighted to welcome Mrs Poulos to YPS in Term 3. Mrs Poulos will work as an RFF teacher on Wednesdays and Thursdays and on 3/4P on Fridays.
Mrs Jane Thomas will be our librarian and RFF teacher from Tuesday to Friday commencing in Term 3.
Uniform
As the weather becomes cooler, this is a reminder regarding our school uniform policy. Tights may only be worn underneath a dress or skort and are not to be worn as pants. Navy tracksuit pants remain an appropriate option and are available for purchase from retailers such as Big W.
School jumpers, jackets and hats can be purchased via Flexischools. Your assistance in supporting our uniform policy is greatly appreciated.
Debating
We are incredibly proud of our YPS debating team, who have completed two rounds of competition so far this year.
The team won their first debate against Tharawal Public School, successfully arguing that the school week should only be four days long. They then competed against Illawong Public School, debating against the topic "Every parent should buy their child a pet."
Although they were unsuccessful in the second round, the team represented YPS with confidence, skill and sportsmanship. We look forward to watching them debate again soon. Well done, girls!
2027 Enrolments
If you intend to enrol your child at YPS in 2027 and have not yet completed the enrolment process, please contact the office.
We are currently required to provide projected enrolment numbers to the Department and would appreciate having the most accurate information possible. Thank you for your assistance.
YPS VS Marton Knockout Soccer
YPS recently competed against Marton Public School in the first round of the NSW State Cup.
Our girls played exceptionally well and fought hard throughout the match but were narrowly defeated 1–0. The boys also had a fantastic game, winning 3–1 and progressing to the next round.
Both teams demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship and represented our school with pride. Congratulations to all players, and thank you to Mr Robson and Mr Cox for their commitment to training and supporting the teams.
Kindy Excursion
Our youngest learners recently enjoyed a wonderful day at Calmsley Hill Farm. I was incredibly impressed by their manners, enthusiasm and eagerness to learn throughout the excursion.
Thank you to the Early Stage 1 team for organising what will undoubtedly be a highly memorable experience for our Kindergarten students.
P&C
A sincere thank you to our P&C for hosting the wonderful Mother's Day Breakfast. A special thank you also to Camp Australia for sponsoring the coffee van on the day.
It was a lovely morning, and we are extremely grateful to the volunteers who generously gave their time to make the event so special for our YPS mums and mother figures.
Our next P&C meeting will be held in the staff room on Monday 15 June at 7.00pm. We look forward to seeing you there.
Engadine Rotary Markets
YPS will have a stall at the upcoming Engadine Rotary Markets on Sunday 14 June in Engadine Town Square.
If you are in the area, we would love you to stop by and say hello. Thank you to the staff members who have volunteered their time to support our school at this event.
Zone Cross Country
Congratulations to all YPS students who represented our school with pride at the Zone Cross Country Carnival.
A special congratulations to Scarlett, Channing, Cody, Ray, Charlie and Poppy, who have qualified to compete at the Sydney East Regional Cross Country Championships.
This is a fantastic achievement, and we wish them the very best for the next stage of competition.
Multicultural Public Speaking
Congratulations to Eve, Nicholas, Kiara and Indi, who will represent YPS at the next stage of the Multicultural Public Speaking Competition following a highly competitive school-based final.
Well done to all students who participated. We wish our representatives every success in the next round.
First Nations Student Council
Our Stage 3 representatives will attend the First Nations Student Council meeting tomorrow at Tharawal Public School. Thank you to Mrs Morando for accompanying the students. I look forward to hearing about their experiences and learning from the day.
Wakakirri
I am incredibly proud of our Wakakirri team. The performance is shaping up to be something very special and I am thankful to Miss Chesworth, Mrs Nicoll, Miss Hatchell and Mr & Mrs Liles for all their hard work in bringing the production together.
We are looking forward to our costume fitting and holiday rehearsal on 13 July 2026. Please ensure this date is marked in your calendar, as attendance is required for all students involved. Please refer to the note sent home regarding staggered start times.
An additional rehearsal has also been scheduled for the Staff Development Day on 20 July.
We cannot wait to see the performance come together.
Vacation Care
Vacation Care is available at The Cottage. Bookings can now be made through the Camp Australia app.
Long Weekend
A reminder that next Monday is a public holiday. I hope you enjoy a relaxing long weekend with family and friends.
