Role of School Counsellor:
Counselling students
Assess students’ learning, emotional and behavioural needs
Assist schools to identify and address disabilities that may affect student learning
Help families to understand and manage their children’s learning and mental health needs
Liaise with other agencies and mental health professionals to provide wrap around support
Student Support Officer
Role of the Student Support Officer:
Ms Murphy is the Student Support Officer (SSO) at Macarthur Girls High School. She is passionate about supporting your girls to be their best possible self.
The SSO is a point of call for your girls to seek advice, guidance or support for whatever they might want to talk about. Ms Murphy is often the person they can go to when they are not sure who to go to.
Ms Murphy works with students for things such as self-esteem, resilience, conflict resolution and coping skills, peer mediation, or to be connected to local supports or youth services.
Mental Health Hub
The Department of Education has launched the Mental Health Hub website. It has been developed to ensure advice is available to anyone who needs it, at any time. It is important that mental health support for our students is varied and accessible for everyone.
The Department of Education provide useful resources for students, parents and teachers as it has some really practical resources, from tips on how to start a conversation with someone doing it tough to finding ways to improve their own mental fitness.
