Now it's your turn to make your own counting book about the number 5.
Step 1: Collect your items.
Step 2: Open the zip-lock bags. Lay the bags on the cardboard, like pages of a book.
Step 3: Take the remaining cardboard and fold it over the bags to form the spine of the book.
Step 4: An adult can help you staple the spine of the book into place.
Step 5: Give the book a title.
Step 6: Go on a '5 hunt' to find different ways of showing 5.
Add items to your book and share it with a friend, toy or family member.
You will need:
pencils
10 counters
Hint! You could use blocks, dried pasta or pegs.

The counting game
Duration: 3:31
How to play (select arrow)
Use 10 as a target number. The aim is to be the player who puts down the 10th item.
Take it in turns to place 1, 2 or 3 items into a ten frame. As you do so, count on, saying the number words in the sequence as you place each item. For example:
Player 1 places down 3 items and says "1, 2, 3"
Player 2 places down 2 items and says "4, 5"
Player 1 places down 2 items and says "6, 7"
Player 2 places down 1 item and says "8", and so on until the target number (10) is reached.
Players collect a point if they say the target number.
A new target number is chosen and players play again.
Now it's your turn!
Have a go at playing the counting game with a friend or family member.
You can also play the game with a toy (you can play both parts!) for practise.
Challenge!
Try playing forwards and backwards.
Try a higher target number, such as 12.
Think and share:
How could we change the game to make it harder or easier?
What did you notice about counting backwards? Did it make your brain work harder or was it less difficult?
Did you work out a way to play this game to help you win? What was your strategy? Did it work?
