Queensland surf trip

Author: Tom Groom

3:00 AM, the annoying iPhone alarm blowing up into my ear. I turn to Jordan and we look at each other, both struggling to stay awake but buzzing with excitement. Our flight was taking off at 6:00 AM sharp so we needed to get ourselves to the airport. We strap up the boards and pack in everyone's bags to set off towards Sydney.

We landed later in the morning and headed off to a nice little cafe that was on the top of the Point Danger headland. Later we were told that our room was ready so we headed off to explore the hotel that we would spend the next 5 days in.

We surfed every day and some days we surfed twice a day, even seeing Mark Occhilupo on the good days. Some mornings we decided to wake up at 5 AM just to escape the crowded morning lineup and get the perfect early morning winds. We switched between the two best breaks there; Snapper Rocks and Duranbah beach.

Apart from surfing ourselves, we did a few other activities like spending ages in an arcade playing a car racing game, walking to check the surf, searching for nice cars (which we found), taking photos of anything that looks cool and eating. My healthy diet was heavily based around the Mcdonalds close to our hotel and the $1 hamburgers that were there, while Jordy decided to spend a bit more money on salads and that.

To finish off our holiday we drove down to Byron Bay for the day as our flight was late afternoon. We enjoyed burgers for lunch and spent the rest of our time looking around in shops.
