Year 11 Elective Visual Arts

Year 11 is a crucial and exciting foundation year, giving students one final opportunity to strengthen their artmaking skills before beginning their HSC Body of Work. Students explore a range of expressive forms, starting with a focused portraiture unit in drawing, where they develop technical accuracy, observational skills, and personal style. They then move into a vibrant modernist painting unit, experimenting with colour, form, and abstraction, before finishing the year with a surreal lino print project that encourages imaginative thinking and bold visual storytelling.

Alongside their practical work, students study art history and criticism through targeted case studies in portraiture and modernism, learning how artists across time have challenged conventions and shaped new ways of seeing. Year 11 equips students with the confidence, knowledge, and creative discipline they need as they prepare for the demands of the HSC.
