Congratulations to all students for reaching this milestone in their education journey. I am genuinely excited that students now get to make a few choices regarding their educational interests. Stage 5 is an important time to consolidate on earlier foundational skills and apply them to areas of interest and passion. When making their choices, I ask students to make school as engaging and fun as possible by focusing on topics and skills that they actually enjoy. I encourage students to be patient with themselves and to keep improving and developing as individuals, and to not get too stressed. There is plenty of time to get more serious in Years 11 and 12 as students pursue the HSC credential and other transition to employment pathways.
I ask students to keep the following tips in mind when selecting their elective courses for Years 9 and 10:
Engage with the resources provided here on this website.
Read the Subject Selection Booklet carefully
Do not choose a subject just because your friends are doing it
Do not choose a subject based solely on who is, was or might be teaching the course next year - it might all change
Speak to your teachers who know you and the Head Teachers about your choices
Speak to students who actually do or have done those subjects
Do not get caught up in worrying about whether your electives are in line with your future career aspiration - do what you enjoy and the results will come.
Best of luck with the selection process and please come and see me if you need any assistance.
Regards,
Brent Waters- Deputy Principal.
