At school we have restrictions in place to prevent students downloading inappropriate content and accessing apps which are not school related. These restrictions are in place from 8am til 3pm Monday to Friday, on school days (ie the restrictions are not applied during holiday periods).
It is up to you to decide what restrictions you would like to put in place at home and whether your child has access to the device at home. Although our preference is for students to take their device home so they can catch up on any work they may have missed, if you feel strongly about this they may leave it in the library.
Apple provides an app called screen time. Screen time allows you to control which apps your child can use and until what time. We strongly suggest that you follow the instructions below to set up some restrictions. You may, for example, have the device non-functional after bed time.
We have an iPad at home, can we use this? No. The iPad fleet is managed by the school. Restrictions are in place to avoid distractions, ensure the teacher can effectively deliver lessons. The apps, hardware and accessories are the same for every student.
What does the ongoing fee cover? The fee includes a specialist bootcamp induction to using the iPad, the ongoing loan of the iPad and accessories and access to specialist support personnel in the classroom to maximise the use of the device. For more information, see the Program Costs page.
Is there a buy out option? No. iPads are and will remain school property and need to be returned if a student leaves Holsworthy High School.
Is the school subsidising the program? Yes a substantial portion of the cost of the program is subsided by the school.
What if I forget my iPad?
We all forget things from time to time, however it is important to bring your equipment and to bring in charged. In the event that you forget your iPad or forget to charge it, more than 3 times in one term, your iPad will be placed in 3 strikes mode for one week (Friday til the following Friday). This means the iPad will not be available for use outside of school hours. If this happens to your child, please discuss methods of remembering to charge and bring your iPad each day. Many students find it handy to set reminders or alarms in their phones.
