How to make an insect hotel

What you will need:

• A wooden frame or a container such as an ice cream bucket.

• Thin bamboo lengths

• Small blocks of wood

• A drill

• A saw (you will need help from an adult)

• Wire

• A plastic or terracotta pipe

Insect hotel steps

Follow the steps

1. Cut bamboo lengths (about 20 - 30cm)

2. Bundle them together and tie wire around to hold them, OR pack the bamboo lengths inside a pipe.

3. Place in a tree or in a garden bed with flowers or vegetables.

To make the hotel inside a frame or container:

1. Cut small lengths of thin bamboo (you will need help from an adult for this step)

2. Drill holes into blocks of wood making sure not to drill all the way through (you will need help from an adult for this step).

3. Pack the frame with the bamboo and blocks of wood. Make sure the holes are facing the front as this is where the insects will make their homes.

4. Place in a tree or in a garden bed with flowers or vegetables.

5. Wait for lizards to find their new home!
