Learning Support Faculty

The Learning Support Faculty take responsibility for the learning needs of individual students in all years.

Our aim:

Is to promote self esteem, participation, confidence and challenge in learning for students with different and particular learning or support needs.

The faculty consists of:

2 Learning and Support Teachers (LaST) and 7 Student Learning Support Officers (SLSO). The LaST provide in class support through team teaching, assistance with provisions in assessment tasks/exams and at times, where required, withdrawal of small group or individual students to develop their skills in a particular area. In addition to this, the faculty work and consult on a needs basis with a range of support agencies and specialist personnel in order to provide adequate teaching and learning strategies for individual student learning and support needs.

These agencies include but are not limited to:

  • Itinerant Support Teacher hearing/vision
  • Assistant Principal Learning and Support
  • Assistant Principal Teacher Transition
  • Northcott (disabilities services)
  • Westmead Children's Hospital
  • Occupational Therapists/ Speech Therapists

What the Learning Support Faculty do:

  • assess and track the learning progress of identified students throughout their high school years.
  • ensures the provision of equal opportunity for students to succeed at different levels.
  • provide a supportive environment, relevant teaching and learning strategies, alternative pathways, including Life Skills
  • monitor and evaluate the learning and support needs of individual students, through Personalised Learning and Support Plans (PLaSPs)
  • Provide professional development to staff regarding adjustments and differentiation to teaching and learning strategies and behaviour management.
  • Work closely with the Student Support Team to assist in the transition of students with additional needs. This can include primary to high school transition, cross-school transition and school to work transition.
  • Consult and collaborate with staff, student and the community to ensure that the necessary adjustments are made for students identified with a learning and/or support needs in line with the Disability Discrimination Act and the Student Well being Policy.

  • Social Skills programs including Salvaging Sisterhood, Awareness and Motivation program
  • Step Up numeracy program
  • STARS -refugee program
