Gardeners Road Public School would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of this land the Gadigal and Gameygal Peoples of the Eora nation. We would like to pay our respects to the elders past, present and all Aboriginal peoples for they hold the memories, the traditions and hopes of Aboriginal Australia.

This website has been created for the teachers, students, and school community of Gardeners Road Public School to learn and access information about our school history while embedding Aboriginal Perspectives through visual arts. The links and information used in this website help our whole school community gain a deeper understanding of our local history.

Our Aboriginal History

From at least 60,000 B.C. the area that was to become New South Wales was inhabited entirely by indigenous Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with traditional social, legal organisation and land rights. The population of New South Wales was at least 100,000 with many tribal, clan and language groups.

At Gardeners Road, Rosebery the traditional owners of this land were the Gadigal and Gameygal clans of the Eora Nation.

Our sports houses were recently updated and are now named after local Aboriginal totems. Burra (eel), Gawura (whale) & Wirriga (goanna).

In 2023, our school will be working towards teaching our students to understand the connection between Country, Culture and People. We want our students to have the ability to understand what country is and how it plays a part in the Aboriginal culture as Aboriginal people belong to land/country.
