How to Gamify an Activity or Worksheet

To gamifiy the process of creating new teaching ideas I have created some random generators that will let you choose an element of game and a tool to use when you gamifying.

By making these random I am forcing you to move outside your comfort zone and be more creative.

If you get a horrible combination and can't think of anything of course spin again or better still think of something else to do!

Example worksheets to practice with:

These are left over from when I was presenting this as a solely maths based activity but they serve as an example of the kinds of activities we often ask our students to complete and show how easy it is to improve them with some elements of game.

History of this task

I first used this idea in a workshop presentation at the Maths Association of NSW annual conference and have since refined the idea on a Twitter chat for #pstchat.

I have included below the examples and answers I shared as part of the Twitter chat. If you would like to share your examples or ideas using the Google Form at the bottom of the page that would be wonderful.  You can see the ideas other people have already shared by looking at the Google Sheet linked to the Google Form.

Examples from the Twitter chat

My questions and answers from the Twitter chat are included below to give you some idea of how you can use this system to create engaging and educational activities using things you already have in your classroom and without a huge amount of time or energy for planning or set up.

Try to imagine how you would use these combinations before clicking on the image to see my example.
