Gamify a worksheet

Introduction

This activity is designed to support you in improving or enhancing a lesson or classroom activity that you already use by gamifying it. It can be completed individually or you could work with a small group to design a few different activities.

You do not need to create a game. The idea of gamification is to use elements of games, such as Choice, Story or Reward for example, to enhance a learning experience. An example of this can be found in this activity which I have gamified, but is not an actual game.

To gamify the process of adapting learning activities you are already doing in your classroom I have created some random generators that will let you choose an element of game and a tool to use when gamifying. By making these random I am forcing you to move outside your comfort zone and be more creative. If you get a horrible combination and can't think of anything, of course spin again or better still think of something else to do!

If you would like to share your examples or ideas using this Google Form that would be wonderful. (You will need to be logged in to your Google account to view the form.)

You can see the ideas other people have already shared by looking at the Google Sheet linked to the Google Form.

Activity

Step 1. Decide whether you and your team mates will work on individual activities or work as a group to create one activity for each teacher.

Step 2. Follow the instructions in the image below.

Step 3. Use this random generator to choose an element of game.

Step 4. Use this random generator to choose a tool.

Step 5. Record your idea for the activity in a way that will allow you to use it with your students at a later date. (Optionally, share your idea using the Google Form linked in the introduction.)

The elements of game

For more information on the elements, and what I mean by them, read the elements of game page.

You do not need to do this however, your idea of what the element means or how it can be used will still generate fun engaging lesson ideas.
