Breakout EDU box

Introduction

Breakout EDU is an immersive learning games platform. Games can be played with a physical kit or as a digital version online. In addition to the content knowledge needed to succeed in a specific game, all Breakout EDU games require critical thinking, collaboration, creativity and communication.

Activity

I will be using the paid game ‘BREAKING OUT WITH A POP’ for the workshop and cannot share that information here because it is behind their paywall.

All the different games, paid and free, are available at this location on the Breakout EDU website.

Players

One team of five players work together to solve a series of problems and unlock the box!

Equipment

Breakout EDU box, internet access, device.

Teaching Notes

When you buy a Breakout EDU kit you also have the option to purchase access to a wide range of pre-made games as well as support for making your own (many teachers have done this by buying locks and other equipment from a hardware store).

There are some free games available in the library to practice with and I would recommend doing at least that before attempting to create your own. There are also a large number of free teacher created games available to download.

Here is an example aimed at Primary school students that is free. The story is that the students are trapped inside Minecraft and need to escape!
