Researching with Oliver
Fairfield High school has as its Library Management system – Oliver Version 5 Build 8 – one of the most technological advanced library management systems available. Oliver has several features which all staff and students should learn how to use to assist them when conducting research into their various subject areas.
Begin by logging into Oliver via your staff/student portal.
Features
On the enquiry page, type in a search term such as "Australia" and click on the Hour Glass Icon. Ie the GO Button. You will see a listing of resources which are held in the school Library or in one of the school faculties. It will also tell you the Dewey number so that you know where to look on the Library shelves to find the resource. If you click on the title, it will tell you how many copies of the resource the Library has if the resource is available to be borrowed, and if not, who has the resource on loan and when it is due back.
Advanced search - On the Enquiry page, if you click on the drop down box you will be given the option to conduct an Advanced search. This will allow you to search for particular resources via the following options:
By Author.
By Title.
By Publisher.
By Format – Book/website etc.
By Collection. eg What resources are held in the English faculty on this topic.

Search other sources - On the Enquiry page of Oliver, click on Search Other Sources in the Drop Down Box, type in "Australia" and click on the GO Button. Here you will find a list of resources which you can access from the following:
The school Library.
Henry Parkes State Equity Centre Library.
Jill Sherlock Memorial Assistance Library.
Wikipedia.
UNDER DATA BASES:
Modern World History Online.
Ancient and Medieval History Online.
Science Online.
Blooms Literature.
Health Reference Centre,

1. In many cases, the resources from Other Providers listed below, will have links to other Websites/Articles on the Net. As such you will enjoy seamless access. ie You will not need a 2nd. User Name and Password to access these websites/ Articles.
2. You will be able to access resources held by the following. You can nominate which of these Other Providers you wish to search simply by ticking the appropriate Box.

LEARN PATH:
Learn Path is a feature of Oliver where you will find tailored research guides for your individual research assessment tasks. These have been prepared by Mr Downie in consultation with your classroom teachers and the staff at Softlink - the company that has developed Oliver. You will also find in Learn Path, curated guides on other subjects that you may be interested in reading up on. These other guides have been developed by teachers and Teacher - Librarians across all school systems across Australia.
To access Learn Path, log into your portal and click on my school Library. The following screen will appear.
2. Click on the Icon next to the Log Out Icon. See the Learn Path Guides below.
3. Click on Senior Years and then the English folder.
4. Click on the appropriate Guide.
